Dear Governor Wolf,

Even though scientific evidence proves that pipelines are the safest way to transport natural gas and petroleum products, they are not without risk. Mariner East 2 is very concerning to many parents and students from Glenwood Elementary School because the new pipeline will pass within 600 feet of the school playground and within 800 feet of the school building. The fact that a valve station is located 1,000 feet from the school has added to the concern.

The staff at Glenwood Elementary School strives to provide an environment that is conducive to learning and development. However, it is difficult for students to learn if they have anxiety about a pipeline that is near their school.  Many young students see signs declaring a “Blast Zone” as they travel to school, and they are aware that some of their classmates have moved out of the area because of the parents’ fear for safety.

We, the President of the Rose Tree Media School District Board of Directors and the Superintendent of Schools, respectfully ask that you order a risk and probability assessment to be completed by a competent and unbiased organization so that residents of Pennsylvania and the families that send their children to Glenwood School have the information they need to determine the risks that pipelines pose to their safety.

It is our sincere hope that a risk and probability assessment will make the students and parents feel better about the Mariner 2 pipeline and it will allow the students and staff at Glenwood Elementary School to learn and work in an environment without unnecessary fear.

Thank you for your consideration,
